States of Consciousness
When expanding our perception, one explanation of the process involves regarding our normal awareness as a baseline state of consciousness. From there, in many different ways we can shift into an altered state of consciousness. This is the disorienting stage where we are prone to indulging in labelling and reasoning our way to describe something quite unreasonable that is occurring within our perception of which we have little to no experience or authority to reduce to a word or phrase.
Next, we enter into what can be called a discreet altered state of consciousness. Here is where we have gained some familiarity. We have had some experiences and time exploring this new state of reality where we can gain partial stabilization and orientation within this infinitely variable space.
Lastly, we have what we may call the new baseline state of consciousness. Similar to our original baseline state of consciousness, we have stabilized our relationship to this reality to a degree of familiarity allowing us to be able to make sense of and traverse this terrain like a child is in our world learning with basic skills. Gaining this degree of familiarity does not mean we are immediately masters of it, just like in our own ‘normal’ reality or original baseline state of consciousness, there are an infinite amount of possibilities, challenges, struggles, experiences and occurrences. Gaining familiarity in the early stages is akin to being a newborn baby, gazing around wide-eyed in wonder at this new world, unable to even fathom the infinite possibilities of what lies ahead of you.
There is one extremely under-emphasized and critically important guiding principle that applies to all states of consciousness; we must utilize our awareness impeccably and make appropriate decisions to the best of our knowledge based in Love and not fear.
